Fixing and making shooters happy about their guns is what Pilkington Competion has been about from the very beginning. Scott started gunsmithing as part of the National Guard Marksmanship Training Unit in the late 1980s, starting first with Bullseye pistols working with Dave Mattice and Joe Chambers at events from Little Rock to Camp Perry.
Gradually Scott’s started learning the international guns from rifle smith and barrel maker Gene Barnett and Dave Mattice, gunsmith for multiple Olympic Teams (76, 80, 84, 88, 92 and 96). Scott also is proud to have worked with the gunsmiths from the USAMU at various events and locations over the years. Scott’s interest in international gunsmithing were cemented in 1991 after he attended his first World Cup out in Chino, California. Scott’s first traveled as official team gunsmith for the US Team at the 1995 Pan Am Games held in Buenos Aires, Argentina. From there he was gunsmith at events like the 96 Atlanta Olympics and the 2000 Sydney Olympics, the 1998 World Championships in Barcelona and 2002 World Championships in Lahti, Finland. At each of these events he was able to work with the factory gunsmiths to increase his knowledge of the specialized maintenance requirements for these esoteric guns.
In 1997, Scott’s gun rapport with these gunsmiths and an unresolved repair issue from the then-current importer caused Scott to be named by Steyr-Mannlicher as an importer and repair center and it was at this time that Pilkington Competition Equipment came into being, and “pilkguns” was chosen as his screen name for his first e-mail account. The website with this name came nearly a year later after his return from the 1998 World Championships.
Recognizing his travel schedule conflicted with making timely repairs for his growing number of air gun customers , Scott began training Buck Parson to understand the special requirements of competition air guns and firearms. Involved in this training included taking Buck to Germany in the spring of 2001 receive first hand training at the factories.
Scott’s knowledge of the sport and various air gun power plants lead Daisy to hire him as a consultant as they began discussions with the British air gun company Air Arms as they developed a CA rifle legal for the Sporter Class. In November of 2000 he traveled with Daisy engineers to Southern England to finalize plans for this new gun.
This rifle ultimately became the
Daisy XS40 Valiant, and Pilkington Competition became the Warranty
and
Repair Station for these rifles for Daisy. Scott is proud to
have hanging on his wall serial number one of the
Valiant series.

Scott and Buck continue to be involved in world events at US World Cups and both attended the Munich 2005 World Cup for continued training with the factory mechanics. In 2007 Pilkington Competition was represented at the 2007 National JROTC Air Rifle Championships.
Repairing your gun
From the above, you can see that we have an excellent background and education to ensure that a repair on your match weapon is handled with precision and professionalism. I believe we have the largest and most comprehensive stock of match gun parts in the United States (both air and powder) and maintain good relationships with repairmen from all the factories, regardless of whether we sell their product or not.
Because of Scott’s other business concerns, Buck does most of the gunsmithing at PCE these days, but we strive to make sure each repair is handled with our slogan “Quality has no regrets” in mind. While unfortunately experience has taught me that I cannot promise every repair is a perfect repair, as on rare occasions there are premature failures of o-rings or other new parts, or even those (rarer!) times when we overlook something… However, I will PROMISE YOU that we will make it right at our expense. Period. Yes, sometimes this costs me more than the repair was worth, but it’s the way I expect to be treated and will treat you the same way. As stated in the first sentence of this page, our goal is to make you happy with your gun.
As stated earlier, we do have a large inventory of parts, mostly encompassing commonly needed parts for the more popular older models and most all of the current models.
If it is an older gun of less common variety, we may have a secret supply of parts or know where I can perhaps source them in Europe. A phone call will generally resolve parts availability prior to sending your gun in.
If we are on location at a match somewhere, we will make every effort to repair your competing gun and get you back on the line, regardless of manufacturer or US importer. However, for normal repairs there will be times when we may you refer you to another repair person or center. These reasons can vary from respecting other importers exclusivity agreements, acknowledgment of specialized tooling or skills necessary for a particular repair, or geographical shipping concerns, where it is faster and cheaper for you to ship your gun to an equally capable gunsmith closer to you. If it is an easy repair that does not require specialized tooling or skills, we may well ask you if you would like to do it yourself and sell you the necessary parts. The 10P Files often has info that may help you as well. Along these lines though, please be aware that requests to buy infrequently used parts is often an extra chore for us because we do not have prices made up for every possible part, even if that part is in stock. It may take us a few days to get back to you on these type of requests.
Our priorities
Repair priorities will always be active US Team members first. Second is warranty repairs on guns we have sold. Next in line is other active competitors, whether competing on the national level or a high school rifle team. Fourth is modifications or custom work for active competition guns. Finally is the repairs or custom work on all other guns.
Normally repairs in the first three categories will be finished and returned in 2-3 business days. The other two categories will normally be completed within a week to 10 days, depending on parts availability, the requirements of the job and other unexpected variables.
